Historic verdict of Ahmedabad Blast: For the first time in the history of the country 38 convicts were hanged -11 sentenced to life imprisonment, 13 years 6 months and 23 days sentence to the enemies of Gujarat

The verdict in the serial blast case that took place on July 26, 2008 in Ahmedabad has been announced for 14 years. Of the 49 convicts in the case, the special court sentenced 38 accused to death and 11 to life imprisonment. The convicts have been sentenced under Section 302, treason and UAPA (Unlawful Activities Prevention Act). For the first time in the country’s history, 38 people have been sentenced to death together. Earlier, 26 people were sentenced to death in the assassination case of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. The accused are currently lodged in jails in Ahmedabad, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Maharashtra.

The trial began on February 8, 2022, and the sentence was announced on February 18. Convicts were fined Rs 2.85 lakh and the family members of the deceased were compensated Rs 1 lakh The court imposed a fine of Rs 2.85 lakh on all the convicts except one and fined the accused number 07 Rs 2.88 lakh. Out of this fine, compensation of Rs 1 lakh has been ordered to the deceased, Rs 50,000 to the more injured and Rs 25,000 to the general injured.
